What Is a Welcome Email Sequence (And Why You Need One)

A welcome email sequence is an automated series of emails that go out to everyone who subscribes to your email list.

Did you know that the average open rate of the first email of your welcome sequence is roughly 50%?

That’s 2-3 times higher than the open rate of your other emails.

Meaning…

If you don’t have a welcome email sequence, you are missing out on a huge chunk of potential revenue.

Thankfully, I’ve got a simple DIY welcome email sequence formula you can use to fix that today!

A Simple DIY Welcome Email Sequence Formula

Email #1: “I’m so excited for you BECAUSE…”

In addition to delivering your freebie, show your customer why getting on your email list was the best, most life-changing decision they ever made.

No, not just “what they are going to get out of it” (aka free content, bonuses, etc.)…

But how AMAZING they are for stepping up, downloading your freebie, and beginning their journey to do X.

And how their life will dramatically improve if they stick around (and open your emails, duh).

And how freakin’ excited you are for all that they are going to accomplish because they just signed up to your list.

Email #2: “Oh my gosh, I’m crying”

If you want to connect with your audience on a deeper level, you have to know how to tell really good stories (or hire someone who does *wink, wink*).

No, not the boring, “elevator pitch” stories…

The “oh my gosh, I can’t stop laughing/crying” type of stories.

This is the perfect place to share the biggest, most embarrassing mistake of your entrepreneurial journey…

Or that tear-jerker moment that turned your whole life upside down.

Spare no detail.

Keep it real, raw, and honest.

Then watch as your audience members turn into loyal customers overnight.

Email #3: “It’s not your fault”

Does your audience have a big goal or dream they have been struggling to accomplish?

Let them know that it’s not their fault…

And that you’ve got their back.

Call out some of your industry’s biggest myths (“you just have to be more disciplined”) and tell your new subscriber WHY the traditional advice hasn’t worked for them.

Then… 

Show them how you’ll help them do better.

Email #4: “Here’s how I can help you do X”

This one’s simple.

Share one (and only one) way your audience can work with you to achieve their greatest desire or deal with their biggest pain point.

Bite-sized offers like ebooks, DIY kits, and weekly meal plans work great for this but you can also use this to showcase an introductory coaching offer.

Email #5: “Here’s what’s coming your way next”

Finish up your welcome email sequence with a simple “what’s next” email.

This is great for setting expectations for future communication.

Tell your new subscriber how often you will be popping into their inbox, and what you’ll be sharing.

Then, ask them to hit “Reply” to your email and share what they are most excited to hear about from you!
